Thomas Haden Church as a Spider Man villian? What the....wait, no, time to practice some objectivity. Okay, I'm envisioning this...thinking...thinking...no, this is just too weird. He's pretty limited in what he can bring, as even he has admitted in a number of post-Sideways interviews. What villian could he play? Retired Athlete Guy? The Marauding Mechanic?
I am inclined to trust Raimi since he has been a smart caster in the past (with the exception of Hayden Christensen, who struggles valiantly in his scenes to display more convincing emotion than whatever furniture happens to be laying around at the time), but I just can't see this. Yet.
Odd, but not a sign of disaster.

Explain, while I will not argue about Hayden Christianson's lack of ability, Sam Raimi has yet to cast him in a film. Perhaps you are referring to James Franco and simply mixing up your mediocre 20something actors.
Folks, let this be a lesson: doing ether keg-stands will not make you "cool." It only leads to tragedies like this one. Franco (who is a significant improvement on Christense, to increase the degree of my error) is the cuckolded heir of the Spider Man movies. Oy.
